God’s Ultimate Plan....Hmmm....What path is that leading down??? I’m glad you asked!
In most anything in life, we ought to have some kind of plan. You may have noticed, elsewhere on this site, reference to “plans” I had made concerning hiking the Appalachian Trail, placing of ScriptureSticks, when to hike, when to stop, how to fund it, who to hike with, and numerous other details. You probably realize, as I do, that every part of my plan is subject to change. That’s the nature of human nature.
Some of us plan every detail of our lives, and sometimes our “plan” is to have no plan at all. Either way, we still end up going down paths we don’t belong on. There is turmoil in our journey that is generally self-inflicted, because man’s plans are subject to failure, and the net result of our efforts is that we are lost. Yeah, I guess you might have figured out where this is going...we are poor planners, usually making important decisions based on what we feel. This often leads to actions that leave us, (or someone else), hurting. Sometimes the hurt is immediate, sometimes delayed, but at some point we realize that we have taken a “wrong turn” in our behavior. Strange thing is, we don’t always learn from it, and seem to be drawn into entering those forbidden pathways (SIN).
Well, just as you shouldn’t go into the woods without a compass, you shouldn’t go through life without guidance and a SOLID PLAN...one that you didn’t come up with. So, let’s talk a bit about you, God, and His Ultimate Plan...
First of all, I’d like to say that God has a wonderful plan for your life...He makes that clear to us in the Bible. The Bible is His Word, which He inspired certain people to write down. The Bible is how He reveals himself to us. John 10:10 says, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”.
Why do we need Him to do that???
Remember?... we keep messing things up, and He has the only plan that works. We are sinners. All of us. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23... That sin keeps us separated from God, or “Lost”. It also leads to death, and eternal separation from Him. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our LORD.” Romans 6:23.
Hey! Wait a minute! We get a gift? ...and who is this guy Jesus?...
Yeah, a gift! Eternal life!...and this guy Jesus (Christ, the Savior!) is the one who bought the gift for us. With His Life! Jesus is God’s Son, who willingly went to a cross and was crucified on it as payment for our sin, so we could live, and NOT be separated from God. God loved us so much that He sent his Son to the cross to bear the burdens of OUR sin... “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16. ...Jesus was also buried, and God raised Him up from the dead. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9. His resurrection is assurance that you will have everlasting life when you receive Jesus as your savior!
...Seems as though there would be an easier way to be cleansed from sin, and be reunited with God....
No. “Jesus said to him: I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
That’s the only way to be saved?
I know, I know...You’re really a very good person, but no matter how hard you try, you are still a sinner...and “good works” won’t save you either. You can’t earn it, it is a gift. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
But, there must be SOMETHING I can do!
Well, yes! You must receive and accept God’s free gift! Then you can enjoy God’s Ultimate Plan for your new life, and an eternity with Him! “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Revelations 3:20
Is this gift available to everyone?
Yes! “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12
How do I receive this gift?
Well, you can receive Christ as your Savior NOW! What a gift! “For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” Romans 10:13.
He does, however, want you to turn back from the path of sin that you are on.(repent). “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Luke 13:5
So, although you will still stumble, get headed in the right direction, turning away from your sin, and following Jesus! You can accept Him as your Savior now by praying.
“Dear God, I am a sinner. I need forgiveness for my sins. I believe that Jesus went to the cross to bear the burdens of my sins, and redeemed me through His shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection. I now receive Him as my Savior, and Lord. Thank you for this wonderful gift of salvation, forgiveness of my sins, and eternal life with you. I am now willing to turn away from sin, and thank you for your merciful grace. Amen.”
Anything else I need to do?
Nope. Not for your salvation.
However, now that you are a Christian, (having received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior), you should:
GET A BIBLE, and READ IT EVERY DAY.
This will help you get to know God and understand Him. You might say that this is how God talks to you.
PRAY TO GOD EVERY DAY.
This is how you talk to God.
WITNESS FOR GOD. This is how you talk for God...and walk for God. Let folks see God working in your life. Share the GOOD NEWS (Gospel) with them!
God also asks you to be baptized in obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ, as a public testimony of your salvation!
You should also worship, fellowship, and serve with fellow Christians in a church where Christ is preached, and the Bible is the final authority!
And, finally, TELL OTHERS ABOUT CHRIST!
“And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
I pray that this has made some significant impact on your life, and ultimately, if you were unsaved, have now reached a decision to accept Christ as your Savior. If you are still unsure, please dig deeper. Talk to a Christian friend, or a Pastor.
Remember, the Ultimate Truth of God’s Ultimate Plan is His Word, the BIBLE. READ IT. Thank you, and may God richly bless you.
